IN HER OWN WORDS I believe that good writing speaks to the reader’s heart and mind, touching what is intimately vulnerable. My goal is to portray characters as human as the nurse taking a patient’s blood pressure, or the invisible man on a street corner asking for a cigarette: they are chewed up, kind, thirsty, selfish, lost, honorable, delusional, loving. My characters are victims of bad luck and good luck—and you will recognize them as you would distant relatives, forgotten friends, and the image you see in the mirror.
